Pioneer Day

I'm not talking about the Mormony kind of Pioneer Day.

I'm talking about MY Pioneer Day

July 24, 2003
The day I arrived in the unknown land of Arizona
and became my own kind of modern day pioneer.

And on this SIXTH anniversary of me being a 'zonie,
I'd like to commemorate this day with some milestones.

In six years in Mesa, AZ, I've had...
2 cars...

(2001 Toyota Camry, totaled on Valentine's Day 2004)

(2001 VW Jetta, almos 100,000 miles and the road-tripping machine!)

taught at 2 different schools...

Taylor Jr. High School, 2003 - 2007

Mesa High School, 2007 - present

got my masters...

Northern Arizona University, Class of 2006, Masters in Math Education

had 5 boyfriends...

I want to barf all over this guy, Rob, and it was only 2 weeks so he doesn't count!

A super dark black guy named Fabilo. The only picture I ever had of him, he was standing in the shade and you truly could not see him.
So this picture will have to do... That was a quick 2 months in the summer of 2004. He was a total drama queen.

Corbett Brown. 3 months at the tail end of 2004. A very serious relationship that broke my heart. In retrospect, I glad I'm not his wife!

Jonathan Simon, a two month rebound from Corbett at the beginning of 2005. Nice guy, but we were in no way right for each other.

Greg Smith, the absolute love of my Arizona life. We spent Jan 2008 - June 2009 together .
But apparently 18 months of time doesn't make the timing right... It's tragic, I know.

had 7 roommates in 5 different locations...

Kimberely Bernhoft (now Smith) & Carrie Cannon (soon to be Hammons)
July 2003 - July 2005

Darby Schnepf (now Simon... yes, as in Jonathan) and Jill Slentz (now Dever) and

Morgan Dahl (now Larsen)
July 2005 - April 2006

Wendy Finlayson and Sarah Neerings
April 2006 - December 2007 when Sarah left.
We all know that Wendy is still hanging in there with me!

bought a house...

and made oodles and oodles of friends and memories!

I have so many good good memories of my time in Arizona! So many that I better stop here so I don't forget a ton of people and a ton of good times... I can't possibly blog them all right now.

Arizona, you've been good to me.
THIS is the time of my life!

What a fun post! What a great bunch of memories! Remembering Rob and Fab made me laugh! It's crazy that we were roommies for 4 of those boyfriends. I totally didn't realize that you dated Greg for 18 months! We sure didn't know what we were getting into when we ventured out here, did we?!

I can't explain how happy I am that the PI shirt made it in the blog post. Arizona maybe has treated you well... but you have treated Arizona and the people of Arizona soooo great. We love you. :)

What a sweet comment from Amber.
I LOVED this post. It brought some great memories to my mind too. Boyfriend #5 was my favorite and still is. :)

Love the modest version of your academy hussy clothes. That fake belly button is a total riot!

And PS-in response to your last comment on my blog, you're absolutely right! I need to make a point of seeing you when we visit Kent's parents. I'll make you a top priority next time we are in the greater Phoenix area. For reals...

Oh my...so many fun memories. My 6 year anniversary is coming up on Sept 1st! Crazy! PS - I need those photos of Havasupi when I sprained my ankle...I don't know where my pics are from that trip!

That was so fun to read. But you left out the two music videos you were in while in Arizona. My kids love watching their famous aunt on TV.
And really, garlic and lemon juice for $10.....

I love your trip down memory lane- what a fun look into what you've been up to, I have to admit my jealousy of your home ownership status, but I'm holding out for a house here in ventura and hoping i'm not just dreaming. ok, so it's a long shot I know but does Jill Jarvis have a brother who's a couple years older than us? I knew a guy at BYU with that last name, his first name- I'm drawing a blank, but I don't hear the name Jarvis very often. -keely
