So, apparently I'm allergic to amoxicillin

My title and this picture should be enough:

This is just my armpit, which happens to be one of the worst spots.
I took other pictures, but I don't think I'll be posting those on a blog!

I guess I'll tell a little bit more...

This morning when I stripped down to get in the shower, I had to take a double take at myself in the mirror. I was COVERED, head to toe, with these red spots. I woke my roommate up and had her take a look at me to make sure I wasn't just seeing things. And I wasn't. After my shower, I decided there was no way I was going to work like this... I needed to figure out what was wrong with my skin. So I went into work to arrange for a sub, tell my student teacher what was going on and get the school's nurse's opinion. The nurse knew I had been taking amoxicillin for strep throat that I had last weekend and quickly blamed the meds for my hive-covered body.

I dropped in at my doctor's office and they saw me immediately (I'm sure they didn't want me freaking the other patients out in the waiting room). They confirmed what the school nurse had suspected. So, they have me hydrating myself and taking benadryl (and I'm not finishing my amoxicillin, obviously) to see if the rash goes away. If it gets worse or doesn't get better by about Thursday, then they'll put me on a steroid pack. Awesome. Steroids.

So, the funny thing is that I've had health problem after health problem since early September (I won't go into all the details...) and last year about this time, Wendy, my usually healthy roommate, was in and out of bed all semester with health problems. Last week, we were comparing notes and I realized that all of her problems started up in the few months before her 29th birthday. Guess who's turning 29 in a few months? Yep, me. So, this must just be the curse of the 29th birthday. It's like my body is just giving me a sneak preview of what my 30's will be like.

Gross.

Crap. Does that mean I'll start having weird mystery illnesses now too? Or is it just something in your house? lol. I guess I have a few more months until my 29th bday to worry about it. Ugh. I hope you start feeling better soon!

Just so you know, it is NOT a sneak preview of what your 30's are going to me like.

That's so GROSS! Do not come near my house! Stay on your side of the street! I mean it! Your friend now probably think you have the meanest neighbor:) I am mean, do you want me bring you some soup actually we are having salmon. I can bring you that. Hope you recover really soon. Steroids are no fun. Caleb did not do good on them. Seriously let me know what I can do to help you, I owe you BIG time.

xoxo~

Dear Lindsey,

Thank you for venturing over to the contaminated side of the street this afternoon to borrow some tinfoil. Next time, go buy your own.

Love,
Spendy

PS For those of you who think you are witnessing some neighbor-hating, you're not. Just a little joke between my fabulous neighbor Lindsey and me! :)

I am glad you did not have a worse reaction. You know. Like death or something. But I also wanted to tell you I took a steriod pack a few months ago and I didn't notice any horrible side effects, so yeah.

Looks bad Rebs. On a lighter note,I think you should milk the sympathy thing as along as you can. Yesterday salmon dinner - tomorrow who knows (the sky's the limit)!

Good luck, and feel better soon.

So lame! I hope it clears up ASAP! Last year David's family found out his 10 yr old brother is allergic to amoxicillin when he began having violent hallucinations the day after he started it! The stupid doctor who prescribed the stuff said it couldn't possibly be related to the meds, and sent him to a psychiatrist. They opted to take him off it anyway and the "psychotic episodes" went away within a day! Just FYI in case your spots start talking to you...

Hey Sis! Did you know mom is allergic to Penicillin too? (Same class/drug) About 10% of Americans are. Hope you recover from the reaction soon. Enjoy the Benadryl and get some rest, remember the movie "Hitch"?

Eek! That doesn't look good at all. I hope you are feeling better now and not on steriods.

I did enjoy the armpit shot. You always post the best pictures (booty shots, your bra, now your pit). hahaha
